I don’t know about you, but waiting is not on my top ten
list of favorite things to do. I
remember waiting for Christmas when I was a child. My parents would tell me Christmas was a
month away, two weeks away, a week away. As far as I
was concerned, it might as well have been a lifetime. All I knew is that it wasn’t today and every time
I asked I was told it would be “soon”. I didn't understand soon.
Waiting for the Messiah must have been difficult for the children of Israel. The prophets had promised the Messiah would come but they didn't know when he would come. They didn't know how. The children of Israel waited hundreds of years for the Messiah to come. Just as I hoped Christmas would be today when I was a child, they continued to hope it would be today. Until then, they just kept talking to God and waiting.
Psalm 37:7 says, Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.
Lord, as we wait for the coming child
teach us how to wait in You.
Show us how to love through You.
Implant your hope in our hearts.
Amen.
Amen
